You can get loads of them with just a few simple clicks or taps. The advancements in technology not only made it easier for us to get information but it also gave rise to new inventions and innovations that changed our way of doing things. Things like cleaning and whitening our teeth were way different compared to how it was done 10 or 20 years ago. Today, we have access to different kinds of toothpaste and teeth whitening products. All made possible because of new technologies and discoveries. The efficiency and the convenience they provide replaced the old remedies. But there are still some old school methods that are just as effective as the modern ones.

We have access to a wide selection of products that are designed to whiten our teeth. It is just a matter of choosing which one you are most comfortable with. With all these products readily available to anyone, there are still those individuals who choose to do things the old way. Why is that? Well, for one thing, they might be just as effective as modern whitening products. Check out some of these traditional or old school methods of whitening our teeth.

Baking Soda

You’ve probably seen grandma or grandpa use this when brushing their teeth. Brushing with baking soda is probably one of the most well-known methods of whitening teeth. It has natural teeth whitening properties which is why it is a common ingredient in toothpaste. It also helps in preventing bacteria and is good against plaque. Though it does not whiten your teeth overnight, you will notice a significant difference over time. Use it sparingly though as it tends to erode the enamel on your teeth.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Not convinced about using baking soda as a teeth whitener? Using apple cider vinegar might be more to your liking. The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar makes it a good antibacterial and teeth whitening. It is commonly used as a mouthwash by mixing it with water and swishing it in your mouth for a few minutes. Make sure to rinse your mouth after. Just like baking soda, use it sparingly as it can also erode the enamel on your teeth.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is a traditional Indian remedy meant to improve oral hygiene. It just involves swishing oil in your mouth to remove bacteria which can cause your teeth to turn yellow. You can use any oil but coconut oil is a popular choice as it is known to reduce inflammation and its antibacterial properties. Unlike baking soda and apple cider vinegar, it does not contain anything that can erode the enamel so it is safe for daily use.
