At autobrush, we are passionate about revolutionizing oral care through technological innovation. Each generation of our brush head marks a significant advancement in making dental hygiene effortless and more effective for everyone. Join us as we explore the evolution of autobrush brush heads, highlighting the impressive clinical results and a look into what's next.
The Revolution Begins: Double-sided Silicone Brush Head
Our journey began in June 2018 with the launch of the first-ever U-shaped double-sided toothbrush, the Double-sided Silicone Brush Head. This revolutionary design cut brushing time to a mere 30 seconds, making waves in the dental community for going against the 2-minute brush time standard. Particularly beneficial for children, individuals with disabilities, and those with sensory sensitivities, this brush head made dental care accessible to a broader audience, ensuring a gentle clean, especially along the gumline.
Advancement in Efficiency: Single-sided Nylon Brush Head
In June 2021, we introduced the Single-sided Nylon Brush Head. The nylon bristles more effectively scraped plaque from surface areas, providing a deeper clean and enhanced plaque removal compared to its silicone predecessor. It also marked the first u-shaped toothbrush to have nylon bristles, further solidifying autobrush's place as the leader of innovation.
Chris Lander, autobrush’s founder, reflects on the development, saying, “The process of figuring out how to adhere the nylon bristles to our brush heads was a difficult one. The brush quality was just so much better that we felt it was our duty to make the single-sided nylon brush heads available so people could get a better brush while we nailed our double-sided nylon brush.”
Behind the scenes, we used feedback from our customers to adjust sizing and materials in preparation for the next step.
A Clinically Proven Leap: Double-sided Nylon Brush Head
February 2022 saw the debut of the Double-sided Nylon Brush Head, a product whose efficacy was validated through rigorous clinical trials. In partnership with SALUS, our study demonstrated that this brush head removed 27 times more plaque than manual toothbrushes across the entire mouth. Users experienced a 50.6% reduction in overall mouth plaque and a staggering 71.2% reduction at the gumline. These figures not only highlighted the brush’s effectiveness but also its role in significantly improving oral health within just 15 days of use.
Next-Level Results: Double-sided Nylon Brush Head with 3rd Row
With the introduction of the Double-sided Nylon Brush Head with 3rd Row in February 2023, autobrush solidified its reputation for groundbreaking products. The addition of a third row of bristles focused on the gumline, where most oral health issues begin. This new design underwent further clinical testing, revealing extraordinary results:
- Immediate Impact: After just one use, there was an 85.2% increase in plaque removal at the gumline compared to traditional brushes.
- Long-Term Health Benefits: Over 30 days, the brush significantly enhanced plaque removal efficiency, demonstrating sustained improvements in oral hygiene.
- Gingivitis Reduction: Crucially, it also achieved a 40.9% reduction in the Modified Gingival Index, a key indicator of gum health. This reduction highlights not only the brush's ability to clean but also its effectiveness in preventing gum disease.

NEW: autobrush Double-sided Nylon Brush Head with a silicone 4th Row
Coming May 2nd, 2024, our Double-sided Nylon Brush Head with a 4th row, combines the plaque removal power of our nylon brushes with the gum health benefits of our initial silicone brush head.
With GumDefend™️ technology, users can enjoy:
- Enhanced Gum Health: New silicone bristles in the fourth row stimulate the gums, increasing blood circulation and promoting healthier tissues.
- Deeper Cleaning: This row intensifies cleaning along the gumline, targeting hard-to-reach areas to reduce plaque and prevent gingivitis.
- Comfort-Enhanced Design: Soft, flexible bristles provide a gentle yet effective brushing experience, perfect for sensitive gums.
The improved brush head also includes blue bristles that fade with use. This is to indicate when it's time to replace the brush head, ensuring peak performance.
These advancements highlight our commitment to evolving dental care, providing a superior brushing experience that promotes healthier teeth and gums.
Chris Lander shares the inspiration behind this innovation, “The 4th row was inspired by a conversation I had with one of our dentist consultants about improving gum cleaning. We chose silicone for the fourth row due to its gentleness, and we really wanted to add a visual aid so our customers know when it's best to replace their brush head.”
"I'd like to give a special shout-out to those in our Facebook group, The Daily Smile. We gave samples of this brush head out to a select few to get some early feedback which helped the innovation process immensely," Chris adds.
