Here are some tips to follow to keep your child’s beautiful smile healthy:

Teach Good Dental Habits

The best way to protect your children’s oral health is by teaching them a proper dental habits. Make a specific routine and timing on when and how they should brush their teeth. With your supervision, guide them on the proper way of brushing and make sure all the plaques and buildups are removed. Eventually, they will be able to adapt this habit and continue doing it until they grow up.

Brush and Floss Teeth Regularly and Correctly

Choosing the right toothbrush and toothpaste appropriate to your child’s age and needs is essential. It is advised to use fluoride-free toothpaste especially since your child tend to swallow the toothpaste while brushing. Swallowing too much fluoride can lead to white or brown spots on your child’s adult teeth. Start flossing when two of their teeth touch each other. Brush and floss before bedtime and avoid giving them food and drinks until the next morning.

Watch Out for Your Child’s Diet

The more your child eat or drink sugary meals, the more likely they are to develop cavities. As much as possible, stay away from fruit juices, sodas and other sweet snack. If your child does have sugar, make sure to brush their teeth immediately and drink plenty of water. The longer sugar stays in your child’s mouth, the greater the risk to oral problems.

Regular Oral Check-up

Your visit to the pediatrician usually involves checking of your child’s teeth and gums. If they notice some problems, they will refer you to a pediatric dentist or a general dentist who are interested in taking care of children’s dental needs.

Having a healthy teeth at an early age is critical to a child’s development. It has a huge effect on their physical, emotional and social progress. As parents, you are in charge of making sure they are motivated in keeping their teeth and gums strong and healthy at all times.
